{edited} corrected some grammatical errors.I've always thought that the advancement in technology isn't really a good thing. Nowadays, phones are getting more complicated in terms of functions and so on. Phones with touch screens are getting more common among Singaporeans. Well, not only Singaporeans I guess, but almost all the first world countries. One good example is the iPhone. I've tried using it, and it's definitely more complex than the normal Sony Erricson K810i phone that I use. Does that mean it's more handy and it's functions are better than our normal phones? Just to go to one simple application, which you can easily press a button on the normal phones, you have to enter lots of windows before successfully getting to the application if you're using iPhone or any other touch screen phone. But why are there so many people around us desiring for iPhones? For all I know, You might even be one of those people. Is it for the sake of buying it to flaunt your wealth? Or is it simply just for it's uses? No doubt, if one of my friend tells me she just bought an iPhone, I'll be like 'wow, so cool.' but come to think of it, I wont buy it even if I have the money. Sometimes, simplicity may be the best. Advancements in technology have indeed lessened our workload, making life easier for us. But it is also because of it that we have all developed a reliance on it. With the phonebook in our phones, we dont have to remember numbers anymore. There might be even people who dont even know their own house number. I cant imagine what will happen if these people are in some grave danger and dont even have their phones with them. Have you ever wondered how the people in the past survived without the devices we have now? I remember one particular Chinese literature lesson, where our teacher showed us a poem of two friends having to part. It indicated and expressed the kind of unwillingness and sorrow the two friends had as separation meant that they will have a high possibility of not meeting each other again. It's something we wont see these few days right. What's separation to us? We still have messenger, we still have our phones, and our email. But think of the situation back then, how are the two friends going to meet up and talk over a cup of coffee( in this case tea instead of coffee cause the people back in those days dont drink coffee)? What can they do even when they miss each other? They have no phones, no postmen, no messengers. Anyway, what im trying to say is that we are all getting complacent and over reliant on the technology such that we neglect important things like friendship and take things for granted. I dont really like talking to friends on the messenger. Somehow, I feel that there's a barrier in between my friends and I. My preferred method is of course to ask my friends out and have a long chat face to face. To be honest, I seldom sms my friends automatically, and I can just leave my phone in my bag for 1 or 2 days before realising I didnt have my phone with me for that long. Haha, so dont contact me when you're in trouble because im unreachable. And you should know the reason if I take a whole day to reply your msg. Okay, I look like im writing a compo. Sorry I bored you. |
